A Huntington Beach Kitchen Remodel Built Around an Island

In this Huntington Beach kitchen remodel, we replaced an L-shaped counter and a separate dining table with one large island that seats five people and adds storage. We also removed soffits for taller cabinets, rebuilt the pantry and coffee bar, and updated the finishes, lighting, and patio doors.

What the Homeowners Wanted

The family wanted a kitchen that felt open to the living area, with seating built into the room instead of a table pushed beside the counter. They also wanted more storage and a fresher, more modern look.

The Huntington Beach Kitchen Before

The original kitchen worked, but it was split in two. Cooking happened along the L-shaped counter, and meals happened at a table with four chairs next to it. Soffits above the upper cabinets cut their height and wasted space you could have used for storage.

What We Changed in This Huntington Beach Kitchen

An island instead of a dining table

We took out the L-shaped run and the table and built one large island in their place. The countertop overhang seats up to five people, and the cabinets underneath add storage where the table used to stand. Cooking, homework, and breakfast now happen in the same spot.

Taller cabinets where the soffits were

We removed portions of the soffits so the new cabinets could run taller. That gave the family more storage and cleaner lines along the walls.

A pantry and coffee bar that fit the new layout

Once the island moved the work zones, we rebuilt the pantry and coffee bar to match, so the things used together are stored together.

Materials, Fixtures, and Finishes

We paired quartz countertops with a porcelain tile backsplash, a combination that looks clean and is easy to keep up. At the range, a freestanding hood became the focal point, with a pot filler beside it. A farmhouse sink gives more room for big pots and pans.

New lighting brightens the work areas, and new sliding doors to the back patio let in more light and make it easier to move between the kitchen and the yard.

The Finished Kitchen

The kitchen now feels like one room. There is seating for five at the island, more storage above and below the counters, and a clear path from the kitchen to the living area and the patio. The family cooks, eats, and talks in the same space instead of across a table.
